Don’t know how to use a garbage disposal? Don’t worry about it because we are here to help. Follow these steps and you are good to go. But remember that these steps are the same for most disposals on the market.
1. Turn on the water
When you turn on the water, make sure that it’s cold. When you are washing the dishes, the water needs to be hot so that the food softens. However, this isn’t the case when it comes to disposing food leftovers. Cold water causes the food to harden and a garbage disposal can break it up more easily.
2. Turn on the garbage disposal.
When you turn on the garbage disposal, make sure that you keep your hands and fingers away from it.
3. Feed the disposal with a little of waste at a time.
Although commercial garbage disposals can grind as much as several lbs of food at a time, most disposals for non-commercial households can’t. Make sure that you feed it with a little of waste at a time in order to prolong its lifespan.
4. Let the food clear the disposal.
When the food gets disposed, you’ll hear it because disposer will start running more smoothly.
5. Turn the disposal off.
Press on the OFF button and that’s it.
6. Turn the water off.
Congratulations, you have successfully disposed the food leftovers.
